Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, marks the day (June 19, 1865) when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom (two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed).
Today, this day has transformed into a powerful catalyst for community impact, uniting people to celebrate African American culture and heritage while driving collective action toward equality and justice. It serves as a vital opportunity to honor our shared history, strengthen local bonds, and inspire meaningful, lasting change for future generations.
