GivePulse Statement on Cuts to AmeriCorps Funding and Infrastructure
How we can help
These are not just words; they are a promise made by tens of thousands of Americans each year who choose service over self-interest.
Now, more than 32,000 AmeriCorps members who took this pledge—serving in all 50 states, Washington, DC, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands—have been cut from their programs due to recent funding rescissions.
At GivePulse, we believe in the power of people coming together to serve, support, and uplift communities. For more than 30 years, AmeriCorps has stood as a vital pillar of this work—connecting individuals with meaningful opportunities to drive change.
AmeriCorps is one of the most cost-effective investments our country can make in education, disaster response, health, environmental stewardship, and more. AmeriCorps programs are evidence-based and evaluated rigorously for effectiveness, and studies show as much as a $34 return on investment (ROI) for every federal dollar invested.
These decisions—including sweeping layoffs and the rescission of nearly $400 million in grants—represent a devastating blow to the national service infrastructure in the United States. They put the livelihoods of tens of thousands of AmeriCorps and Senior Corps volunteers at risk and the stability of over 1,000 nonprofits, schools, and civic institutions that depend on their service.
In the wake of natural disasters, in underserved classrooms, at food banks, and homeless shelters, AmeriCorps members have long served on the front lines. They bring energy, compassion, and commitment to communities that often go overlooked or under-resourced. Their service is essential infrastructure.
GivePulse partners with national service commissions, AmeriCorps programs, and nonprofit organizations every day to support the mobilization and impact of volunteers. We know firsthand that when we invest in service, we strengthen civic health, foster community resilience, and empower a new generation of leaders. The cuts to AmeriCorps deeply disrupt the fabric of community care and service in the United States.
We urge elected officials, nonprofit leaders, and the public to speak out and stand up for national service. Now is the time to reaffirm our national commitment to the idea that service is not a sideline—it is a cornerstone of a healthy, inclusive democracy.
