AUSTIN, Tex., May 20, 2026—GivePulse, Inc. unveils Joy. A new suite of AI agents designed to turn community engagement data into understanding, and understanding into action. Led by taglines like "Joy, Measured," and "Query the Good."
What Is Joy?
GivePulse, the leading community engagement management platform for higher education and social impact organizations, announced Joy, a suite of AI agents built natively into the GivePulse ecosystem. Guided by the taglines Joy, Measured, and Query the Good, Joy is designed to remove the friction between data and insight, activity and meaning, and effort and impact.
Higher education institutions and nonprofits are under growing pressure to demonstrate the value of community engagement. From impact initiatives and workforce readiness to accreditation and donor reporting. GivePulse partners are already capturing vast amounts of engagement data, but transforming that raw data into meaningful insights has historically required digging through static reports, manually exporting spreadsheets, and spending hours on manual analysis.
Joy changes that. As Lauren Bartshe put it during the May 20th product showcase:
"The challenge our partners face isn't a lack of data. It's the friction between data and insight, activity and meaning, and effort and impact."
Joy bridges that gap and is a force multiplier for administrators, staff, faculty, students, and volunteers. Joy is not a replacement for people, but a tool that allows them to focus on the work that matters most. Because Joy lives natively within the GivePulse ecosystem, it activates the data institutions already capture and trust, rather than creating a new silo or separate tool.
GivePulse is initially introducing two major AI capabilities within Joy: the Reporting Agent and the Reflection Agent.
The Reporting Agent: Query the Good
The Joy Reporting Agent transforms how administrators, program directors, and institutional staff interact with community engagement data. Instead of navigating static dashboards or manually manipulating spreadsheets, admins can simply ask Joy a question (in plain language) and receive structured, actionable answers instantly.
How It Works
Using a conversational chat interface embedded directly in GivePulse, administrators can ask questions such as:
"Which students viewed opportunities but haven't registered?"
"Which events are failing to drive volunteer interest?"
"Which partners require more outreach and engagement?"
Joy surfaces structured answers in real time and, in the months ahead, will generate full tables and exportable reports on the fly, eliminating the need for external analytics workflows or tedious manual exports.
Real-World Impact
During the product showcase, the GivePulse team demonstrated a live example using Marquette University's Academic Service Learning program. Previously, generating a comprehensive end-of-semester course engagement report (covering student names, emails, placement sites, verified hours, and attended reflection sessions) took approximately two days to compile and still left it only 60–70% complete.
With Joy, that same report was generated in under two minutes from a single conversational prompt. The result: a complete, exportable zip file organized by course, ready for faculty without any additional manual effort.
"The efficiency that this can bring to complex reporting is really, really valuable because of the time it saves not only on our end, but also the time they (Marquette) were spending on that report after we sent them the 60-70% version." — Quinn Reimer
The Reporting Agent also supports streamlined event creation. Administrators can describe an event in natural language, including the location, time, volunteer requirements, and Joy will generate an unpublished draft event within GivePulse, ready for review and publishing in seconds.
The outcomes are immediate: faster answers to critical operational questions, reduced administrative burden on staff, and clearer, more compelling impact reporting for stakeholders, accreditors, and funders.
The Reflection Agent: Deeper Learning at Scale
Reflection is where the real learning happens. GivePulse partners know that students and volunteers add impact logs to the platform to demonstrate the lifecycle of their work. what they did, what they learned, and why it matters. In practice, however, that reflection process is often incomplete.
Reflections frequently describe activities or feelings rather than analyzing the learning that took place. Students struggle to connect their community experiences to course outcomes, civic responsibility, or personal growth. And educators face a parallel challenge: providing individualized, meaningful feedback on reflections is time-intensive, and there's simply no capacity to coach every student toward deeper thinking.
The result is inconsistent reflection quality and missed opportunities to demonstrate meaningful educational and community impact.
Joy as a Teaching Assistant
Joy's Reflection Agent serves as an AI-powered teaching assistant for service-learning embedded directly within the GivePulse Add Impact workflow. When toggled on by the administrator, Joy guides students through a structured, course-aligned reflection in real time.
Using learning goals defined by the educator for a course or activity, Joy interacts with students as they reflect on their experience. The assistant asks targeted follow-up questions, prompts for clarification, and encourages students to bridge the gap between their community experiences and learning goals, providing individualized coaching exactly when students need it most.
In a live demo during the showcase, a student began a reflection with simply: "I read books to children." Joy responded with thoughtful follow-up questions, asking what the student noticed about the children's reactions, what surprised them, and how the experience connected to their children's literacy course objectives. The result was a richer, more substantive reflection that the student could then carry directly into their formal submission.
"With Joy as a teaching assistant, reflections become more aligned with course objectives and civic aptitudes. Educators will spend less time prompting or returning submissions that simply say 'I was there, it was great.'" — Lauren Bartshe
The Reflection Agent currently uses a structured "What, So What, Now What" model, a widely adopted framework in service-learning pedagogy. GivePulse plans to evolve this model over time, incorporating more complex reflection frameworks and a richer understanding of student learning outcomes.
On the administrative side, Joy's Reporting Agent can translate this rich qualitative engagement data into the data-driven language that leaders, accreditors, and funders value, making reflection not just a box to check but a guided learning journey that demonstrates a program's impact.
What's Next: Beta Testing and Rollout
Joy is currently in active development and testing. GivePulse anticipates initial feature releases beginning in late summer and early fall 2026, with beta testing launching in mid-summer with a limited cohort of partner institutions and organizations.
How to Apply as a Beta Tester
GivePulse is actively seeking a diverse group of beta testers, including universities, nonprofits, and other community engagement partners.
Beta testers will receive:
• Early access to Joy's features before public release
• A structured feedback process to help shape functionality and reporting standards
• Direct influence over workflows, AI behaviors, and what Joy prioritizes for your institution or organization
• Continued updates as new phases of Joy roll out through the fall
To register your interest, visit learn.givepulse.com/joy and complete the beta tester application linked from that page.
Pricing and Availability
Joy will be available free of charge for all paid GivePulse accounts for the first full year following public release. Free/Basic partner accounts will not have access to Joy. GivePulse will determine future pricing structures based on how Joy is utilized across the platform.
Institutional AI Policy and Compliance
GivePulse recognizes that institutions and organizations have varying levels of comfort with generative AI tools, as well as distinct policies around data residency, academic integrity, and external AI usage. Joy is designed to be deployed in alignment with your institution's internal guardrails and will be a toggle-on, toggle-off feature that can be activated only after ensuring compliance with your organization's requirements.
GivePulse welcomes beta applicants to share their institutional AI policies as part of the application process. This input will directly inform Joy's configuration to meet the ethical and operational standards most relevant to institutional partners. Policies can be submitted via the beta tester application or emailed to support@givepulse.com.
Why It Matters
Joy represents more than a new feature set. It marks a fundamental shift in how GivePulse understands (and helps its partners understand) community engagement.
"Joy represents a fundamental shift in how we understand engagement," said Lauren Bartshe. "It is more than student reflection, event workflows, or reporting automation. It is real operational intelligence built directly into the engagement management process."
By living natively within the GivePulse ecosystem, Joy activates the data institutions already capture and trust. This evolution strengthens GivePulse's role as a true impact and outcome system, moving beyond activity tracking to become a real engine for real-world change.
For students, it means reflections that are deeper, more meaningful, and more connected to the learning that community engagement is designed to produce. For administrators and faculty, it means less time buried in spreadsheets and more time acting on insight. For organizations and institutions, it means the ability to tell better stories, make better decisions, and demonstrate the value of their community engagement work to leadership, accreditors, donors, and the communities they serve.
"This isn't about more dashboards or extra fields to fill out. It's about helping people actually use their data to make better decisions, tell better stories, and create deeper community impact." — Lauren Bartshe, GivePulse
