Juneteenth 2022 - GivePulse Call to Action

This Juneteenth 2022, GivePulse is calling on you to take part in the celebration of freedom in the United States! For too long, this important holiday has been overlooked. It's time for us to come together and make Juneteenth a holiday that is celebrated by all Americans.

Juneteenth has always been an important day for people of African descent in the U.S., but it was only in 2021 that it became a national holiday. This year, GivePulse is committed to making sure that Juneteenth is recognized by all Americans. We are calling on you to join us in our efforts to make this a day of reflection and community engagement.

This holiday is important because it commemorates a major milestone toward the abolishment of slavery in the United States. It is also a time to remember those who have fought and continue to fight for social justice, freedom, and equality.

Join us today to get involved! There are many ways you can help:

  • Engage with the Juneteenth - Call to Action campaign on GivePulse social media
  • Use GivePulse as your primary platform to organize events for Juneteenth
  • Share the resources gathered below to raise awareness of the ongoing need to keep the fight for freedom alive

Why is GivePulse engaging in Juneteenth?

GivePulse was founded over ten years ago on the principle of addressing inequities in our social systems and serving as a catalyst for positive social change. We are humbled to work with partners who dedicate their lives to fighting against injustice, many in areas directly impacted by systemic racism. We actively support the following endeavors:

Project H.E.R.E

Institutions of higher education have a responsibility to all students, staff, and faculty to create a healthy and equitable environment for learning and personal growth. Colleges and universities also have a responsibility to the communities they serve to be leaders in social change.

Building off of the legislative bill HR 40, institutions across the U.S. are using research, theory, and the practice of reparations to develop proposals and methodologies that address the history of racial discrimination and violence in the United States. Higher education institutions, their partners, and community programs are playing a vital role in racial justice, from research to activism to philanthropic support.

In honor of the national holiday Juneteenth, we can come together and commit to doing our part to end systemic racism. We have the power to make the changes our society desperately needs, and lasting change will not be possible without the willingness of each of us that can recognize those needs.

Brown Hope - Black Resilience Fund

The Black Resilience Fund is a program of the Portland-based nonprofit, Brown Hope, with the original goal of fostering healing and resilience amongst Black Portlanders using direct financial assistance. Raising over $2.5M during their first two years, the Black Resilience Fund is an extraordinary example of the need to address “generations of unresolved injustice.” We look forward to sharing the latest news from Brown Hope during June 2022 as a featured partner in the Juneteenth - Call to Action GivePulse campaign!

Your Participation Matters!

This Juneteenth, GivePulse continues to promote its original mission of transforming everyone into engaged citizens and taking action toward creating a more socially just society. We invite you to do the same.

How can you get involved?

Finding an organization you want to get involved with can be challenging. Through the GivePulse community, you can search for volunteer opportunities, pledges, fellowships, donation drives, and more in your local area or virtual opportunities. This is a great way to find organizations that align with your mission and vision for creating tangible change across the country.

Whether you are an individual volunteer or creating your own event, you can also incorporate reflection into your engagement. By taking advantage of the GivePulse Impact Surveys as an organization, you can ask reflection questions from your volunteers who participated in your event and encourage them to dig deeper into the experience they had. As an individual, you can participate in impact surveys, write a reflection when posting your impact, and share your reflection with others.

There are many ways to get involved in the continued fight for freedom - from demonstrating and writing letters, to donating and volunteering. But one of the most important things you can do is educate yourself.

Stay tuned to follow us on the journey through Juneteenth’s history, celebrations, and invitations for future engagement.
